(OH MY GOD ALL OF THIS IS SO OLD. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS AS A WAY TO JUDGE WHO I CURRENTLY AM. LIKE DEAR FUCKING GOODNESS THIS WAS WRITTEN IN LIKE 2009.
For a more up-to-date way to know about who I am in random little tid-bits, please refer to my About Me tag.)
The mathematics involved to create Missi are complex and devastatingly awkward. I will place all equations and formulas for you to see. Most of them make little to no sense and are jumbles of quotes and stories and things. Many, many things. Small things. Big things. Things that break and things that will never shatter. Things of dreams. And things of life. Things of courage, love, and strife. Things that rhyme. Things that don’t. Things, things, and things. More things. And just for you. I trust that you will be complacent about them.
- I am perfectly at home in four inch heels, and I think nothing of being over six feet tall.
- In fact, I feel more comfortable in heels and skinny jeans with a fitted sweater than I ever have in pyjamas and a tee-shirt.
- “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
-1 Corinthians 13:4-7 - There are 10 types of people in this world: those who can read binary code and those who cannot.
- When I was three, I would play with a yellow, plastic saw from a play tool set and call it my Simba. At that age, any hard piece of plastic with the same colour of a lion was, of course, a lion, and you couldn’t tell me otherwise. I’d take the saw with me into my playhouse to cuddle it and let it play with my little, brown horse stuffed animal (whose name was Black Beauty, regardless of there not being a speck of black on her). Eventually, my mum bought me a real Simba stuffed animal for my fourth birthday. I spent three months calling him Simba, then decided to see if I could pretend he was a girl for a week. I failed miserably, and he has been male ever since. He has also been my favourite stuffed animal ever-since and now resides on my bed, aside my other fave stuffed animal, Andy. She’s a leopard who likes karaoke and being a bitch. She and Simba are best friends.
- I also have a stuffed animal named Cedric Stupory, who is made out of an old pair of my jeans. After five hours of slaving away with scissors, sewing machines, and Threadbanger blogs, I was able to welcome him into the world–crazy lightning bolt ears and all. He hangs out with Simba and Andy while I’m at uni and with various pillows when I’m back at home.
- Smarties + wikipedia pages = bliss.
- Sometimes, I crave music and start thinking of plots to go along with the music, but then I realise that I never listen to words and that those who did would see that nothing in my plot made sense to go with the lyrics. I am horrible at actually listening to what’s around me.
- I would marry Chris Thile in an instant.
- My favourite book is Animal Farm, though most people think that it is either Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. Turns out I just like to joke about those books more; Orwell is where it’s really at.
- I’m an INTJ with strong iNtuition and Thinking factors. I come off as a hardcore ENTJ. I’m very sorry that I appear so damned leadership-ish and absolute. Trust that I am working on my stoic nature and talking less. It’s just a bit of a gamble getting there when it comes to my social life.
- Gobstoppers are what God created after He made me allergic to bubble gum so that I could still enjoy gumball machines.
- “If it makes you feel any better, he was vaporised, so there’s no chance of him coming back as a zombie.” -Futurama. I’m fairly certain that this quote is the basis of my life. Or at least it clears up my oddball sense of optimism and love of zombies.
- When I was six, I had my first T-Rex nightmare. I was running so fast, as fast as I could, but I was getting nowhere. I could see my feet moving in slow motion upon the concrete outside of my house, trying to get past a parked car on the side of the street, and that T-Rex was moving in. We were both running in slow motion, in place, and he was right behind me. I’m sure that I was eaten in one bite; after all, I was so lanky and small. When things are really breaking down, I’ll have this dream, though the T-Rex is sometimes replaced with giant sea creatures, Ents, demonic ponies, and other such oddities. I’m fairly certain that my dreams are weirder than drug addicts’.
- Guys + Mandolins = me swooning. I’m looking at you, Chris Thile.
- Add an English accent for even more swooning.
- Or Scottish.
- Or Irish.
- Really, I’ll fall for any European accent that doesn’t sound douche-y.
- Life is water. Water is life. If you find the slow, easy-going flow, you are set. If you end up in rapids, know that they always lead somewhere else where the white water calms.
- I have too many names for future pets (all of which are feline, may I add). Pippin, Gandalf, Minerva, Crook, Aslan, Sabah, Nabina, Khansa, Amira, Hatsumomo, Persian, Meowth, Cat, Luna, Socks, Sabine, Éomer, etc. Now watch my future cats not have any of those names.
- Howard Shore + Lord of the Rings = thank goodness it happened.
- I have four goals in life: become a doctor and help people, adopt a daughter, live in a wonderful area, be stable. Stability being the key in every way.
- Ich spreche Deutsch, aber mein Deutsch ist nicht sehr gut. Es tut mir leid. Ich lerne.
- Whenever I’m having an off day, I set my computer background to a scene from Germany and feel a little part of my heart lighten. It may be by only a shade or two, but the colour becomes softer and breathes a little easier.
- I’ve also been known to set it to Chris Thile playing mandolin or the guys of Muse. I swear my laptop starts to heat up.
- Missouri is notorious for its white skies. Not grey or with blue. But flat, white skies that stretch across the plains and hills as far as you can see. They’re there regardless of precipitation or temperature, and the sheet of white blocks out the sun so that you can’t even tell what time of day it is. These skies are the worst during the winter, and it makes me crave for blue skies. So, when a blue sky pokes its way through in the middle of winter, it doesn’t even matter if there is a foot of snow on the ground, I will be there.
- I practically live in black tights and coloured scarves.
- I’m physically handicapped and have been since probably the fourth grade, though we didn’t get a name for the ailment until I was thirteen. Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (Hypermobility, Type III) has shaped my life in a lot of weird ways, but I’m thinking that, not only am I used to it, but it gives me something to keep going for. After all, my life goal is stability. And this gives me the bonus want of that stability. In all senses of the word.
- “If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if you feel that some small bit of rectitude has been salvaged from the larger waste, then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie.” -The Things They Carried, Tim O’Brien
- I store food in jars and then set them around as decorations.
- One day, God looked upon the Midwest with wonder. There were plains for miles and miles and long stretches of hills and a large river flowing right in the middle of it to divide the east and west. But, He looked upon a town near the large river and realised that, though it was very close, it needed it’s own little river to keep the town happy. So, He drew a line from the large river and began to let this new line take form into a river. He saw that the river was quite nice, so He continued it on. Soon, it was no longer the little line that He had planned for, but a mighty river to challenge the older and larger river from before. He decided that there should not be competition between them and allowed friendship. When one flooded, the other would as well. When one was calm, the other felt the same calmness. And where they’d meet, an island would be placed to show the sharing and friendship between them. We call these rivers the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, and I practically live on top of them and am in love with the Missouri River. If it were a person, I’d hit that.
- I’m sorry for all of the literary references I throw out and that I think Narnia and Middle Earth are on the same planet.
- David Tennant is my favourite Doctor from Doctor Who. Bloody brilliant and oh so clever!
- “Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.” -Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
- I have a lot of favourite things. They will be shared with you. And, why yes, they are immediately copied from my Facebook page.
- Nickel Creek is above and beyond my favourite band, closely followed by many others. I’ll just list: Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Barcelona, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Beirut, Bond, Brahms, Broken Bells, Capercaillie, Chopin, Cobra Starship, Coheed & Cambria, Coldplay, Dashboard Confessional, Death Cab for Cutie, Dixie Chicks, Elton John, Emiliana Torrini, Enya, Flobots, Florence + the Machine, Foo Fighters, Greg Laswell, Hot Hot Heat, Howard Shore, Imogen Heap, Iron & Wine, Joanna Newsom, Jon Schmidt, Juli, Kate Havnevik, Kate Miller-Heidke, Keane, Kerli, Kevin Kern, The Killers, Lily Allen, Linda Ronstadt, Loreena McKennitt, Modest Mouse, Muse, Norah Jones, Panic! At the Disco, Postal Service, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, The Shins, The Strokes, Sufjan Stevens, Tchaikovsky, Theomia, Vampire Weekend, Vangelis, Vivaldi, Wolfmother, The White Stripes, Yael Naïm, Zack Weber, 30 Seconds to Mars.
- My favourite actors are Orlando Bloom, Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson, Edward Norton, and Jeremy Irons. My favourite actresses are Cate Blanchette, Natalie Tran, Natalie Portman, Eva Greene, Emma Watson, and Kiera Knightley. My favourite director is Sir Ridley Scott.
- My favourite film soundtracks are those from Lord of the Rings, Kingdom of Heaven, Marie Antoinette, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
- I used to be addicted to television. Each day after school, it would be straight to the couch so that I could tune in to whatever show Tunami was featuring (usually crappy anime). I was so obsessed with television that I lived for nothing else until, one day, I realised that I kind of hated it. It was right after my favourite show had ended, and I felt a little lost without it. So, I picked up a copy of The Chronicles of Narnia and started reading. I realised I liked it. After two years, many other books became my passion, and I dropped television on it’s arse. Now when it comes to television, you can see me watching Colbert Report or The Daily Show late at night with the dorm house or watching Mythbusters and Cashcab before dinner. And I’ll turn on the Food Network or Travel Channel while working out. Otherwise, I am most certainly not a television person.
- I’ll admit to enjoying Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, Doctor Who, and Ghost in the Shell, though.
- I like movies, though I’ve found that I’m becoming more and more picky (romantic comedies, slapstick, and horror–I’m looking at you). I love dramas with psychological backgrounds and anything witty. I’ve never been able to watch scary movies. Biologically, I just can’t take it.
- My favourite films include Anchorman, Boondock Saints, Burn After Reading, Chicago, Creation, Darjeeling Limited, Dead Poets Society, Deep Impact, Dodge Ball, Ever After, Ferris Bueler’s Day Off, Fight Club, Harry Potter, Hidalgo, Indochine, Kingdom of Heaven, Legally Blonde, Lord of the Rings, The Losers, Love Actually, Love and Death, Mirrormask, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Moulin Rouge, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Painted Veil, Pirates of the Caribbean, Princess Bride, The Secret of Kells, Slumdog Millionaire, Spirited Away, V for Vendetta, Watching the Detectives, Young Frankenstein, and Zoolander.
- I am also a whore for classic Disney movies. Sitting down to Aladdin or Hercules or Beauty and the Beast on a stressful afternoon can make it all worth while, and sometimes I just crave some Pixar like Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and Up. But Up will make me cry like a little girl with a skinned knee, so I have to be careful about when I watch that one.
- I am overly joyful about BBC news, NPR, and talk shows meant for fifty year-old men. It’s ridiculous how much of an old person I am.
- I also have a subscription to National Geographic, which makes me very happy. And after reading the articles, I like to cut them out and tape them into bathroom stalls for other people to read. You’d think that’d be weird, but I get thanked for it.
- I like books. A lot. They keep great company and look pretty when not in use. Especially, I enjoy All Quiet on the Western Front, Angela’s Ashes, Angels and Demons, Animal Farm, Chronicles of Narnia, Deception Point, Digital Fortress, Dragon’s Bait, Fahrenheit 451, The Fountainhead, Four Perfect Pebbles, A Great and Terrible Beauty, Great Expectations, The Great Gatsby, Harry Potter, Hiroshima, The Host, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ishmael, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Rings, My Antònia, Memoirs of a Geisha, Pride and Prejudice, The Princess Bride, Rebel Angels, My Sister’s Keeper, Six Records of a Floating Life, Snow, The Things They Carried, The Truth About Beauty.
- I reread Memoirs of a Geisha every spring when the trees start to bloom again, and I follow it up with rereading Dragon’s Bait on the first warm day where you can wear shorts and sandals until five o’clock rolls around and it’s time for a jacket. After that, it gets very hot, and I always start rereading The Host, even though I never finish it because I then want to reread Pride and Prejudice. Very specific, but it’s tradition that I enjoy. Not to mention that each book is perfect for each part of the year.
- Big cats are the best type of animals out there. I have my stuffed Simba and a leopard (Andy) on my bed at all times, and I have a cheetah plastic toy from the zoo that has sat by my computer since I was eleven. I also had a Beanie Baby shrine on top of my monitor for four years that consisted of five cats. It was adorable, and I feel that the shrine should be reinstated.
- Culture. Travel Channel. Food Network. Exploring.
- I like to paint landscapes. It’s why I’m minoring in studio art. I just want to sit around and paint and make pretty pictures to hang in my living room one day or in my dorm room for now. It’s a great way to unwind and just enjoy life.
- European Street Fashion is the shit. I highly recommend checking out my Blogs Followed page and viewing Garance Doré or Copenhagen Street Style if nothing else. Styles in Europe are so much more classy and chic and couture and expensive when compared to American styles. Americans and their sweatpants. Pff. Give me crazy, eclectic stuff.
- Oh, and I dress weird. But that’s okay.
- “What man is a man that does not make the world better?” -Kingdom of Heaven
